Wessex Alternative Connections
About this Site
As pointed out on the Home Page, this Web Site was inspired by the Sussex Alternative Connections Web Site and has been set up as a brother/sister Site to cover a different Region.
The idea for the Site began about the time of a Networking event at Portslade Town Hall, near Brighton, Sussex, in April 2002, organised by Melanie Gambrill, Webmistress of Sussex Alternative Connections.
The idea for the Site began about the time of a Networking event in April 2002, at Portslade Town Hall, Sussex. The event was organised by Melanie Gambrill, Webmistress of Sussex Alternative Connections who I had met some time previously at the Open Mind Group, in Bognor Regis.
The name of this Site was determined by the coverage area to a large extent. It seemed sensible to extend the area beyond Hampshire to take in the Isle of Wight, Dorset and a little further afield. I certainly did not want to limit it to the Hampshire County border, which, to some extent, seemed artificial and limiting. Hence the choice of Wessex.
Wessex is something of a loose term in this sense
The title seemed appropriate, though Wessex itself does not have a very fixed definition as a region, which probably makes it even more suitable in this context.
According to the Wessex Society, the geographic Counties of Devon, Dorset, Hampshire, Berkshire, Wiltshire, Somerset, Herefordshire, Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire have all been part of Wessex at one time or another.
On that basis, if enough people, groups and organisations are interested in being involved, then this Site could become rather large. We shall see, though it would be encouraging if it did.
